Log cabins are a classic traditional quilt pattern. But they can also be pieced in a fresh, modern way.. Learn how to make a thoroughly modern version using strip piecing and free and easy improvisational piecing.

Color Me Happy! (1 to 2 days)
Are you afraid of color? Do you find classic color theory confusing? Does the color wheel leave your head spinning? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is the class for you! Create a lovely, lively quilt while reexamining your ideas about color relationships. Students will make a 9-block quilt featuring a different color scheme in each block. Available as a 6 hour class (using my free pattern, shown in the left photo below) OR a 12 hour (2 day) class (piecing it improvisationally, shown in photo on the right).

From Inspiration to Abstraction (1 to 2 days)
You can use an existing piece of art to inspire your own original creation. In this class, students will bring pictures of OTHER people's artwork -- paintings, sculptures, buildings or even another quilter's art. We will discover ways of looking at the work and extracting ideas that will inspire us to create something entirely original.

This fun workshop takes an easily pieced unit, the triangle, and plays with it in wild and wonderful ways. Suitable for beginning improvisational quilters, we'll piece a number of units and experiment with various ways to combine them to make interesting quilts!!

Start with a photo of your favorite place and use it to create an original landscape. Heather has made several quilts inspired by the Marshes on Cape Cod, Massachusetts using many small pieced tuning fork units. Learn her method for turning a simple repeated unit into a beautiful abstracted landscape.
